Administrators within the Lowndes County School District say they are confident in the direction the district is headed.
The principals from West Lowndes High School, New Hope High School and Caledonia High School addressed the Lowndes County School Board during Monday night’s board meeting.
Principal Matt Smith at New Hope High School told the board that he “couldn’t be happier” with the B grade his school received for the 2013-2014 school year from the Mississippi Department of Education. Smith said his students jumped 624 accreditation points, which Assistant Superintendent Dr. Robin Ballard said was “huge.”
Smith attributed the jump to Response to Intervention Specialists that now serve the district. The RTI specialists intervene when student’s reading level is underperforming. RTI specialists have been in the district for two years, according to Ballard.
All three principals attributed the students success to “good teachers” and “good people” within the district.
Administrators from the remaining schools will speak at the December board meeting.
