A Brooksville man accused of shooting at a Columbus police officer received a $100,000 bond for the charge on Wednesday.
Isham David Conner Jr., also known as “DJ”, was arraigned in Lowndes County Justice Court. The 26-year-old was charged with one count of aggravated assault on a police officer and one count of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. He received a $100,000 bond for the aggravated assault charge and a $10,000 bond for the weapon charge.
The charges stem from a Tuesday incident where Conner allegedly shot at a CPD officer near 18th Street and 6th Avenue North as the officer was conducting a traffic stop, according to CPD Captain Brent Swan. Conner was not involved in the traffic stop, Swan said.
The officer pursued Conner on foot. Several witness told law enforcement Conner ran into a home located at 1100 Ash Street. After approximately three hours barricaded inside the home, Conner was apprehended when the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Special Response Team breached the door.
The homeowner, Cheyenne Delove Smith, 41, was also taken into custody during the incident. He was arrested and charged with one count possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Smith received a $10,000 bond.
Swan said two firearms were recovered from the home at the time of Conner and Smith’s arrest. The weapon believed to be used in the shooting was recovered Wednesday morning after law enforcement searched the area.
Conner was convicted in 2009 of armed robber, accessory after the fact. He was sentenced to five years probation, according to the Mississippi Department of Corrections. He completed his probation in January, MDOC officials said today.
A motive in the shooting has not yet been determined, Swan said.
