Starkville police arrested a local man Sunday after he allegedly damaged public school property and charged at an officer.
Terry Lee Coggins Jr., 21, of 133 Henderson St., was charged with attempted burglary and disorderly conduct after an officer used his stun gun in order to gain control of the suspect.
A Starkville Police Department officer arrived at Henderson-Ward Stewart Elementary School, located at 200 Martin Luther King Jr. Dr., for a burglary alarm about 1:17 a.m. Sunday. Upon arrival, the officer witnessed a man breaking the glass of Ward Stewart’s main entrance, an SPD release states.
When the suspect was ordered to stop and realized he could not escape, the release states, he then ran toward the officer and was subsequently stunned into submission.
Coggins was arrested with no major injuries.
He was transported to the Oktibbeha County Jail, and was scheduled to appear in Starkville Municipal Court Monday night for bond proceedings.
