GULFPORT — A 26-year-old Texas woman has been sentenced to five years in prison for travelling with seven pounds of crystal meth hidden in the drive shaft of her vehicle.
The Sun Herald reports Veronica Garcia, of Brownsville, is being held at the Stone County jail pending transfer to a federal prison.
A Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force officer had stopped Garcia Feb. 28 on Interstate 10 in Gulfport. Her three-month-old son and 11-year-old nephew were with her.
She was sentenced earlier this month.
Court papers show a background check revealed Garcia was on probation for a drug conviction involving four kilos of cocaine.
A federal grand jury indicted Garcia on multiple charges in March. She pleaded guilty in June to interstate travel in aid of drug racketeering enterprises.
