The Columbus Municipal School Board will announce the finalists for the superintendent’s position on July 1.
A press release issued Tuesday announced the board’s decision.
“The Board is excited about the process that we are undertaking and is committed to ensuring that we select a candidate well suited to meet the needs of our students and this district,” board president Angela Verdell. “Please join us on July 1st as we introduce the finalists to the Columbus community. We appreciate the public’s support and patience throughout this process.”
Eight applicants interviewed for the position over the course of three days. Interviews concluded Monday. The board has previously refused to release the names of the candidates. However, sources within the district said current interim superintendent Edna McGill was one of the eight candidates. McGill declined to comment on the process.
Verdell would not say how many finalist were chosen when contacted Thursday. Al Johnson with search firm Ray and Associates also declined to release that information but said it was “fewer than five.” Johnson added that he thought the interview process went “very well.”
The finalists will be introduced to the public July 1 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium of Joe Cook Elementary.
