ABERDEEN — A former maintenance worker and bus driver has been awarded $100,000 in a wrongful termination lawsuit against the Corinth School District.
A federal jury in Aberdeen returned the verdict this week for Alfred L. Newcomb.
The Daily Corinthian reports Newcomb sued in 2012. He argued the school district violated the Family and Medical Leave Act by terminating his employment after he suffered a shoulder injury that required him to miss work.
The school district argued that Newcomb was terminated “in good faith” as part of a reduction in force because of the elementary school merger and financial considerations for legitimate business reasons.
Court records show Newcomb was hurt when he fell off some scaffolding on Aug. 2, 2010. Newcomb had surgery and received a termination letter upon returning home.
