The Columbus Police Department confirmed this morning that a man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting Friday has turned himself in.
Latasha Key, with CPD criminal investigations division, said Kale Scott turned himself in to authorities Sunday. The 19-year-old, whose last known address is 3531 West Lindsey Rd., had been wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting that occurred at a graduation party at the Columbus Fairgrounds around 12:05 a.m. Friday.
Key said Scott is expected to go before a judge today and be charged.
He is expected to face murder charges.
Investigators claim Scott pulled a gun at the party and started shooting after an argument.
Devin Montgomery, 21, suffered a gunshot wound to the back during the incident and was later pronounced dead at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, according to Lowndes County coroner Greg Merchant.
Another person was shot in the leg and treated at the hospital for non-life threatening injuries, according to Merchant.
Interim Police Chief Tony Carleton said Scott turned himself in at roughly 6 p.m. Sunday. He was booked at approximately 6:15 p.m. at the Lowndes County Detention Center.
