A one-vehicle wreck on Highway 45 North in Columbus has claimed the life of a Starkville man.
Authorities pronounced Undra Williams dead after transporting him to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle shortly after 10 a.m Tuesday.
The 49-year-old FedEx driver was driving a delivery truck that collided with a ditch embankment near the intersecion of Highway 45 North and Spivey Road, according to Sgt. Criss Turnipseed with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. The truck was northboard on Highway 45 and began to enter the left lane of traffic when Williams swerved to the right to avoid colliding with another vehicle, according to the highway patrol.
Turnipseed said Williams, along with a passenger — Nathan Weaver, 29, of Columbus — was ejected from the delivery truck during the accident. Weaver, whose Facebook page indicates that he worked for FedEx, suffered moderate injuries.
The northbound lane of Highway 45 North was blocked for more than an hour while authorities cleared the scene. Boxes from the delivery truck littered the area.
The accident remains under investigations, Turnipseed said.
