Columbus Municipal School District Public Relations Officer and choral instructor Michael Jackson has been arrested and charged with enticement of a child to meet for lustful purposes.
Jackson, 30, of 105 Gardenia Drive, was arrested at his residence late Sunday night by the Columbus Police Department and charged with one count of enticement of a child to meet for lustful purposes.
Don English, Investigations Commander for the CPD, confirmed Jackson’s arrest Monday morning.
“He hasn’t made his appearance in front of the judge yet but he’s been charged,” English said.
In addition to his role as public information officer for the district, Jackson also teaches choral for Columbus High School and Columbus Middle School.
English said the victim was a 17-year-old male student at Columbus High. According to English, Jackson allegedly contacted the teen via text messaging and social media. The investigation is ongoing with the possibility of more victims.
“It’s part of an ongoing investigation and it’s still open at this time,” English said. “We’re looking into the possibility that there may be others.”
Jackson is currently in the custody of the Lowndes County Adult Detention Center. Officials at the jail said charges against Jackson are pending and a bond has not yet been set.
