The Dispatch advertising staff brought home 14 awards from the Mississippi Press Association’s 2013 Better Newspaper Contest for advertising.
Of the awards the advertising staff garnered, four were first place finishes.
The MPA Mid-Winter Conference awards were given out in Jackson on Saturday.
Graphic designer Jackie Taylor took first place in black and white retail advertisement for the ad, “Santa Finds The Best Gifts.” Taylor also took first place in black and white small space advertisement category.
Taylor, advertising representative Mary Jane Runnels and graphic designer Ernest Rogers took first place in newsprint editorial special section for creating, “Restaurant Week.”
Dispatch general manager Peter Imes took first place in the circulation house ad category, while Taylor took second place in the advertising house ad category.
Catfish Alley magazine editor Stacy Clark, Taylor and Rogers took second place in the magazine periodical category.
The Dispatch also took third place in the glossy editorial special section category for the “2013 High School Football” section, third place for the Silver Dollar Idea Award, third place in the glossy editorial special section category, and second and third place in the newsprint special section advertising category.
Rogers took second place in the color grocery or restaurant advertisement category.
Taylor and Rogers both took third place in black and white small space advertisement category.
Taylor also won second place in the circulation house ad category.
“These awards offer another affirmation of the quality of our advertising staff” said Dispatch publisher Birney Imes. “I’m proud of their work and happy they are receiving this well-deserved recognition.”
The Dispatch competed with other daily newspapers with circulations above 9,000.
