The United States Air Force Thunderbirds are coming to Columbus.
The Thunderbirds will be in Columbus the weekend of April 5 and 6 as part of an Open House, according to a Columbus Air Force Base press release.
“This year’s event will be headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, who perform precision aerial maneuvers demonstrating the capabilities of Air Force high performance aircraft to people throughout the world,” the release said.
Base officials say CAFB was one of 14 bases selected to host the Thunderbirds. The Thunderbirds last came to Columbus in 2010.
Colonel Jim Sears, commander of CAFB, said he was honored that The Thunderbirds chose to come to Columbus.
“We are honored to be selected to host the Air Force’s premier aerial demonstration team,” said Col. Jim Sears, 14th Flying Training Wing Commander. “As a boy I got a chance to see the Thunderbirds in person and seeing them in action made me want to become part of the world’s greatest Air Force.”
He added, “This is a great opportunity for Columbus Air Force Base to showcase our proud heritage but also inform our communities about some of the great capabilities of their Air Force.”
The Open House is free and open to the public.
