The poster for the 2014 Market Street Festival has been revealed.
Main Street Columbus announced the winning poster Wednesday afternoon at Mississippi University for Women.
MUW senior Grace Steel designed the winning poster depicting a woman with blue hair and sunglasses. Steel, 22, said she designed the poster hoping to convey a festival theme. She won $300 for her design.
“I was thinking kind of blues and that made me think of psychedelic posters,” Steel said. “I wanted something fun, with the colors and the mood of it. I wanted someone to look at it and know it was a festival poster without reading it.”
Steel said the poster took her a week to design and then another two weeks to add the finishing touches.
“I probably did five drawings on paper and once I got the final one I inked it and scanned into the computer and painted it with Photoshop,” she said.
Steel’s design will appear on posters and T-shirts advertising the May festival.
The Market Street Festival is scheduled for May 2 -3.
