STARKVILLE — Sudduth Elementary School was on lockdown for 30 minutes Friday afternoon after school officials learned of a verbal threat made against a school employee.
The school was on lockdown from approximately 2:10 to 2:40 p.m. after the spouse of a school employee reportedly threatened to bring a shotgun to the campus. Authorities were notified and the man was located across town, unarmed. He was detained by the Starkville Police Department and the investigation was handed over to school officials.
Once the school was deemed safe and the suspect was in custody, the lockdown was lifted.
“Working with law enforcement officers, we determined Sudduth students and employees were safe and secure and the lockdown was lifted,” the Starkville School District said in a press release. ” SSD will always take every precaution in the interest of safety.”
Classes will resume as usual Monday morning.
