A man accused of statutory rape committed suicide one day before his trial was set to begin.
Nathan Page, 25, died from ligature hanging Tuesday morning, law enforcement officials say.
Page was scheduled to appear in Lowndes County Circuit Court Wednesday on a statutory rape charge. Page was accused of having sex with a 14-year-old girl. He was arrested Jan. 5.
His body was reportedly discovered in an outbuilding behind his Vale Road home minutes after the suicide occurred.
He was living in the home with his girlfriend, who discovered the body shortly after 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said the death is still under investigation.
