A three-vehicle accident late Thursday on Highway 45 has claimed the life a Columbus man.
Terry Lee Norris, 21, was traveling South on Highway 45 when the vehicle he was driving hit a North-bound 18-wheeler owned by Southeast Logistics out of Tuscaloosa. The truck driven by Norris was then hit by another vehicle. The 18-wheeler was impacted at the gas tank and caught fire.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Highway 45 and Mike Parra Road around midnight. A close friend of Norris’ said he had recently purchased the GMC Sierra he was driving.
Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant said Norris was pronounced dead on the scene. The truck driver and the driver of the passenger car refused treatment on the scene.
“We will be doing the normal toxicology tests but we will not be doing an autopsy on Norris,” Merchant said.
The accident is being investigated by Merchant’s office and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Norris’ arrangments are being handled by Memorial Funeral Home in Columbus.
