For the first time since the mid-1970s, the Starkville Police Department will have motorcycles in its patrol fleet.
The SPD unveiled two new Harley-Davidson motorcycles Friday. Officers Andy Round and Taylor Wells have been assigned to motorcycle duty and will use the motorcycles primarily for traffic control.
SPD Chief David Lindley said the motorcycles were added to address an increase in traffic problems, a by-product of the city’s growth.
“The motorcycles really make it much easier for officers to get from Point A to Point B in congested areas and situations, like (Southeastern Conference) football games, Bulldog Bash, all the special events where traffic issues emerge,” Lindley said.
