A routine traffic stop Tuesday by officers with the Columbus Police Department led to the arrest of two Columbus men and a juvenile.
According to Cpl. Donnie Elkin, Corey Lathan, 18, of 310 12th St N and an unidentified 17-year old were arrested after officers discovered two guns, cash and two televisions. Both were charged with one count of burglary. A third suspect fled the scene during the arrest.
The incident occurred in 42 hundred block of 21st Street North.
“There was a brief struggle when the officers were trying to get the suspects out of the car,” Elkin said. “Lathan started resisting but he was quickly placed in handcuffs. A third suspect fled on foot while the arrest was being made.”
Elkin said Johnathan Spencer, 52, of 303 Taylor St., was arrested later Tuesday night and charged with possession of stolen property. Spencer’s arrest was made in connection with Lathan’s burglary charge.
“We expect to make more charges and also make more arrests,” Elkin said. “This is still being investigated by the police department.”
