An inebriated man was arrested Thursday night after attempting to climb the E-911 communication tower near the Lowndes County Courthouse.
Columbus Police were patrolling the area at 515 Second Ave. N. around 12:51 a.m. when they saw two white males near the tower and generator, according to Lt. Jeff Guyton.
Upon further inspection, they noticed that one of the men — Joseph Jack Herring III, 27, of 523 Third St. S. — appeared to be trying to climb the tower.
Herring was arrested and charged with public drunkenness and trespassing. His bond is $649, and his court date is May 14.
His companion was released with no charges filed against him.
