Starkville police have arrested and charged a minor with the armed robbery of a Mississippi State University coed on Sept. 18.
Dshante Aquill Nix, 17, of 2172 Williams Road, is currently being held at Clay County jail. His bond is set at $100,000.
Nix allegedly robbed a 21-year-old female student at gunpoint at approximately 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of University Drive and Old West Point Road, near the Halfway House bar and Stromboli’s.
The woman was robbed of her personal belongings, including her cell phone and purse.
The woman was unharmed and ran to a nearby apartment complex to call 911.
According to a press release, Nix is not a suspect in the attempted sexual assault that occurred in the same vicinity on Sept. 12.
SPD Chief David Lindley said the investigation is ongoing and declined to give additional details. However, surveillance footage in the area was instrumental in tracking down Nix.
“It wasn’t the key to breaking the case but it certainly did assist in it,” Lindley said.
Lindley said the SPD has a person of interest in the attempted sexual assault case involving a female jogger who was dragged by a black male under the University Drive bridge just east of the Old West Point Road-University Drive intersection.
