One of the businesses located near the Golden Triangle Regional Airport has plans to expand.
The GTRA Authority met on Friday for a special meeting, to discuss possible incentives for the business, whose name is being withheld pending negotiations.
“We have a business at the airport that wanted to expand and had requested incentives,” explained GTRA Executive Director Mike Hainsey.
About a dozen companies — including Stark Aerospace, Eurocopter, Delta Airlines and three vehicle-rental businesses — lease property owned by GTRA.
The board made no decisions during its meeting, the bulk of which was held in closed session.
“We”re just discussing incentives right now,” Hainsey said, noting the expansion was not to one of the airport”s larger businesses.
Though the area around the airport is marketed as part of Lowndes County”s GTR Regional Aerospace Park, businesses in need of runway access must locate on land owned by the airport and lease the property, allowing for strict regulation of Federal Aviation Administration safety and security guidelines.
