A 16-year-old girl is dead after a crash in Aberdeen.
Gwendolyn “Elise” Mobley of Aberdeen died Tuesday morning when the 2011 Honda car she was driving was struck by an 18-wheeler.
The accident happened at about 7:23 a.m. at Highway 45 and Old Highway 8, just inside the city limits of Aberdeen.
Mobley was headed east toward Aberdeen when she was struck by a northbound 18-wheeler that was hauling jet fuel, according to Alan Gurley, Monroe County coroner.
The driver of the 18-wheeler, who is from Tuscaloosa, Ala., was taken to Pioneer Community Hospital in Aberdeen for observation.
Mobley was pronounced dead on arrival at Pioneer, at 8:12 a.m. Gurley declared the cause of death multiple trauma.
She was a student at Houston High School and was on her way to cheerleading practice. Mobley lived on Old Highway 8.
The accident is being investigated by the Aberdeen Police Department and Monroe County coroner”s office.
