A northside man was sent to the hospital with a burned arm early today as Columbus firefighters battled the kitchen blaze that gutted his home.
The man, whose identity and condition were not released this morning, was injured while trying to put out the fire, which started in the kitchen of the 1303 Eighth Ave. N. house at about 5:30 a.m.
Firefighters, who arrived at the house at about 5:40 a.m. and didn”t leave until after 7:30 a.m., described the resident as a “hoarder” whose house was stuffed with flammable goods.
The blaze today was the second major fire since Friday evening, when Lowndes County volunteer firefighters responded to 50 Blevins Young Road after lightning struck a house.
Although the detailed report was not immediately available, Lowndes County Fire Services Coordinator Sammy Fondren said the fire caused major damage.
