Bond has been set at $185,000 for a West Point man accused of attacking his mother with a baseball bat Tuesday before fleeing in a stolen car.
Jamar Shelton, 22, of 505 Avalon St., is in custody at the Clay County jail charged with felony domestic violence/aggravated assault, simple assault and misdemeanor grand larceny of an automobile.
The West Point Police Department responded to a call shortly before noon Tuesday at 504 Avalon St., across the street from the Shelton residence. Carolyn Shelton, 49, told officers Jamar had attacked her with a bat and turned on his younger brother, Jalen Shelton, 13, before fleeing the home.
Carolyn was admitted to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus with broken bones while Jalen was treated for abrasions and released.
After fleeing his home, Jamar Shelton allegedly stole a 1999 Chevrolet Camaro. He was arrested early Wednesday morning after WPPD officers spotted the Camaro leaving a gas station.
No explanation was provided about the cause of the altercation.
