A Mississippi State University student drowned early Sunday morning at his apartment complex.
Sammy Lee Jackson, 19, of Rolling Fork, was spotted shortly after midnight lying at the bottom of the swimming pool at Cedar Cove Apartments on Louisville Street. He was recovered by the Starkville Fire Department and transferred to paramedics from Oktibbeha County Hospital who attempted to resuscitate Jackson on the way to the hospital and at the emergency room. He was pronounced dead by the emergency room physician at 12:41 a.m.
His body was sent to Jackson for an autopsy.
Oktibbeha County Coroner Michael Hunt was told by investigators that Jackson called his girlfriend shortly before heading to the pool at Cedar Cove and she asked him to wait until she arrived before getting in the water. Approximately 20 minutes later two college students spotted Jackson”s body.
Jackson is believed to rent an apartment at Cedar Cove but no apartment number was given to investigators.
