What started as a friendly gathering Sunday ended with a shooting, when a house guest turned to gunfire.
Joseph Griffin, 81, of Kidd Road in Caledonia, remains in jail this morning for the shooting of Johnny Wells, at a Henry Lane residence in Caledonia.
“Some individuals were just hanging out at a friend”s house, and it kind of got out of hand. Some shots got fired, and one of the friends got hit,” said Ryan Rickert, a detective with the Lowndes County Sheriff”s Office.
Wells, whom Rickert said is in his 70s, was shot once in the chest-ribcage area. He remains in intensive care at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
About a half-dozen friends had gathered together; it is unclear why the gathering became violent. The shooting occurred at about 6 p.m.
Griffin is charged with aggravated assault, and the case still is under investigation.
