Family and friends of Oktibbeha County Constable Jimmy Shurden have established a bank account in his name to help pay his mounting medical bills from a battle with cancer.
Shurden has served as an Oktibbeha County constable for 28 years, but the illness recently forced him to abandon plans for re-election.
Shurden”s friends and family have established a medical expense account at BankFirst in Starkville where people can send donations. Shurden”s family will get the funds to help pay his bills.
“This was set up to help (Shurden”s) family with the enormous expenses associated with this illness,” BankFirst Vice President Ted Roman said Wednesday.
People can mail donations, made payable to Medical Expense Account of Jimmy Shurden, to BankFirst at P.O. Box 1348, Starkville, MS 39760, or drop them off at BankFirst”s two Starkville locations. The banks are located at 101 Russell Street and 1000 Highway 12 W.
“They can mail (donations) in or drop them off and we”ll take care of it,” Roman said.
