OXFORD — U.S. Rep. Travis Childers of Mississippi says he”s hoping for a campaign boost when former President Bill Clinton appears Thursday at a get-out-the-vote rally designed to energize college students.
Childers” campaign says Clinton is scheduled to appear in the Grove at the University of Mississippi during a rally beginning at 11:30 a.m.
Childers on Wednesday compared the former president”s drawing power to that of the late Elvis Presley.
Clinton did not carry Mississippi either time he was elected president in 1992 and 1996.
Childers was first elected to Congress in May 2008 and won a full, two-year term that November. He faces Republican Alan Nunnelee and seven independent or third party candidates in the Nov. 2 election.
