A 29-year-old woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash Thursday in Lowndes County after she swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting another vehicle.
April Scott Ellis of Columbus was northbound on Highway 45, north of Jess Lyons Road at about 2 p.m. when she drove her silver 1998 Ford into the southbound lanes, said Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol spokesman Brian Mobley.
Her vehicle was struck by a green 1998 Dodge Ram truck driven by Michelle Freeman, 27, of Bozeman, Mont. The truck was then struck by a tan 1997 GMC truck driven by Roy Rice, 48, of Columbus.
Ellis and Freeman were taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, where Ellis was pronounced dead by Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant. Freeman was treated for non-critical injuries and released.
The crash is still under investigation by Highway Patrol.
