Columbus police are urging caution after an attempted child abduction was reported Friday night.
Officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of 22nd Street North in reference to a suspicious person in the neighborhood, said Columbus Police Department Public Information Officer Terrie Songer.
The complainant said “an older white male,” driving a white two-door pickup, opened the door to the vehicle and tried to force her daughter and a female friend, both 13, into the vehicle.
The truck”s Mississippi tag — 4YC961 — is not on file, Songer said, urging parents to talk to their children about taking caution when outside.
“If they don”t know them, they shouldn”t talk to them,” Songer said, offering a common-sense approach for children to follow.
The complainant said it is not the first time a similar incident has happened with the same male subject in the area.
