Columbus police are seeking a masked man who tried to rape an 85-year-old woman in the Northhaven Woods neighborhood off Highway 45 North, this morning.
The victim was gardening in her backyard at about 8:45 a.m. when she was approached by the suspect, who forced her inside her house while holding a handgun, said Columbus Police Department Public Information Officer Terrie Songer.
Once inside, the suspect went into another room, allowing the woman to escape out the front door and to a neighbor”s house, where she called police, Songer said.
The suspect was described by police as a slim, black man with a dark complexion, in his 30s, standing 5-foot-10 and wearing a white bandana across his face.
He was not in custody at 1 p.m. Thursday, Songer said.
