The computer system at the Columbus Police Department is fully functional following a server crash last week.
“We got it fixed (Monday). We are back on track,” said Columbus Police Chief Joseph St. John.
A faulty controller card was the culprit in the system”s crash. Chris Rutherford, CPD information technology manager, and representatives from Logista, the card”s manufacturer, installed a new controller card Monday.
Public Information Officer Terrie Songer says the system is currently being updated to include all information filed by hand since the crash. The CPD”s computer system is also communicating with the Lowndes County Sheriff”s Office”s computer system. Arrest, warrant and incident reports are shared by the two systems.
The repairs were made at no cost to the CPD or the city because the part was under warranty. Songer says a backup system is now in place to prevent a similar incident in the future.
