STARKVILLE – An Oktibbeha County man was arrested this week in connection with the seizure of approximately $22,000 worth of marijuana, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics announced Wednesday.
Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics agents served a warrant at an unoccupied home Tuesday at 1053 Lean Lane, located several miles south of Starkville, and uncovered 22 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $22,000, MBN Director Marshall Fisher said in a statement. As a result, the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics arrested 27-year-old Michael D. Moore, of 2234 Williams Road, on a charge of possession with intent to sell or distribute more than one kilogram of marijuana. Moore”s address is less than one mile from the home on Lean Lane.
Moore was transported to Oktibbeha County Jail, where he was still being held Thursday pending a bond hearing, Oktibbeha County Sheriff Dolph Bryan said.
A 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS also was seized in the investigation, Fisher said.
The U.S. Postal Service and Oktibbeha County Sheriff”s Department assisted the Bureau of Narcotics in the investigation.
Delores Sims Lewis, public information officer for the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, would not disclose what led authorities to Moore.
“Our agents do not discuss details that could reveal investigative techniques or hinder ongoing investigations,” Lewis said.
Just last week, the Sheriff”s Department arrested another man from the same area of Oktibbeha County on charges of drug dealing and contempt of court. Sheriff”s Department Deputies last Tuesday arrested 25-year-old Ferlando Sherrod Carpenter, of 1019 Mobley Road, on warrants for one count of sale of cocaine, two counts of sale of marijuana, one count of conspiracy to sell marijuana and three counts of contempt of court. Carpenter”s address is about a block from the Lean Lane home investigators searched this week.
Bryan said he is glad to see the county”s suspected drug dealers behind bars.
“I”m always glad to see a drug dealer get picked up,” Bryan said. “We have plenty of them out there.”
