A Columbus man was found dead at Ruben”s Fish House early Monday morning.
The cause of death for 46-year-old John Caldwell has not yet been determined, said Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant, who arrived at the restaurant at about 1 a.m. on Monday to investigate. Caldwell was a patron at Ruben”s bar on Sunday evening.
“He was put in an area away from the bar and was found deceased there,” Merchant said.
The details of what happened and why Caldwell was left alone are still unclear.
“I can”t say anything as it”s still an ongoing investigation,” said Pat Tuggle of the Lowndes County Sheriff”s Department. “It is uncertain if it was an overdose or not.”
