Drivers along 10th Avenue North soon will be getting a few new reminders to slow down while traveling along the road, members of the Columbus City Council announced during a Tuesday meeting.
The Council voted unanimously to install two stop bars and “rumple strips” on the road between Railroad Street and 20th Street North and to install a four-way stop at 10th Avenue North and Railroad Street.
“The issue that was brought to us a few months ago was speeding on 10th Avenue,” said City Engineer Kevin Stafford. “That area of 10th Avenue North has sidewalks on each side of the street, and it”s in a school zone, so this action is definitely warranted.
“Stop bars are just the white bars painted on the street next to stop signs, and rumple strips are basically just a number of paint bars on the road that let you know you need to slow down because there”s a stop sign coming up,” Stafford added. “Those will be added to make everyone more aware of the stop signs that already exist along that street.”
The project likely will be completed within about 30 days, according to Columbus Public Works Director Mike Pratt.
