Spring Practice No. 7: Personnel observations and some video

- Quickly on the news front: safety Brandon Bryant and wide receiver Stephen Guidry were still not seen on the practice field. That's two practices for Guidry and the entirety of spring to date for Bryant.

- Not that it should be any other way in spring, but I'm thinking the coaching staff views most of the wide receiving corps as interchangeable. It looked like they had a rotation more or less set, but they mixed that up today; the first group was relatively tame in its tweaks, with Devonta "Whop" Jason and Austin Williams joining the fold with Farrod Green and Jesse Jackson. Jamal Couch had to go to the second unit with those moves and Deddrick Thomas, as well, but here was the weird one: Osirus Mitchell. He was with Justin Johnson at tight end.

- If the season started today, Kody Schexnayder would be your holder.

- This is to be expected with the depth MSU boasts at this unit, but man oh man is MSU's second defensive line so much better than its second offensive line. That was particularly clear today, as poor Logan Burnett had two passes batted down at the line in the 11-on-11 we get to see and was generally under duress in most other drop backs.

- Lastly, saw linebacker signee Jett Johnson at practice. The Tupelo native is expected to enroll over the summer; the new coaching staff has alluded to the linebacker position being thin, so I'm guessing they have high hopes for Johnson and JUCO signee Sh'mar Kilby-Lane to fill that hole.
