Russian Club makes donation
Kathy Cadden, right, director of Operation Ukraine, spoke to Russian classes at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science on May 16 after her recent trip to deliver shipments of aid to Ukraine. Afterward, she received a check from Russian Club president Sydney Cooksey of Biloxi, who spearheaded the school’s fundraiser for Ukraine in late March. The fundraiser included sales of Ukrainian food, a silent auction featuring international souvenirs, and a lottery for dinner for two at Harvey’s, donated by Columbus’ Eat With Us group. The Russian Club raised $1,684.17 to help supply Ukraine with food, medical supplies and socks and underwear for soldiers. Since the war in Ukraine began on Feb. 24, Operation Ukraine has sent almost 70 containers of aid to the country.
