Parker Harrington Ray, of Columbus, was inducted into the Order of the Gown at the University of the South during a ceremony held on Sept. 17. Parker is the son of Julia and Rodney A. Ray.
The Order of the Gown is an academic honor society and a unique student government body among U.S. colleges and universities. Since 1875 the Order of the Gown has remained the body responsible for maintaining the spirit, traditions and ideals of the University of the South. The wearing of the gown is both a sign of academic achievement and a promise to continue the ideals and traditions of the University.
The University of the South is a nationally recognized university comprising a College of Arts and Sciences and a distinguished School of Theology. ICC graduates
Several area residents were among those named graduates and received an Associate of Arts or certificate for the 2021 fall semester at Itawamba Community College.
Kelsie Dixon of Columbus was the recipient of a certificate.
Jalen Bell and Raquavia McGee of Starkville received Associate of Arts degrees.
Yan named scholar
Jessica Yan of Columbus was among 300 students named as schools in the Regeneron Science Talent Search, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious science and math competition for high school seniors.
Each scholar, selected from 1,804 entrants, receives a $2,000 award with an additional $2,000 going to their respective school. The 40 finalists chosen to compete in March will be announced Thursday.
Mississippi College graduates
Several area residents were among those named graduates for the 2021 summer and fall semesters at Mississippi College. Students were honored during a commencement ceremony held on Dec. 17, 2021. Those included were:
- Columbus: Heather Dodson;
- Starkville: Anslye Chatham, Vance Dewberry, and Cicely Smith
- West Point: Morgan Baucom
Bryant joins Mortar Board
Jilkiah Bryant of Macon was among 19 rising seniors to join the Tassels Chapter of Mortar Board at the University of Mississippi.
Mortar Board is a national honor society that recognizes college seniors for their achievements in scholarship, leadership and service, provides opportunities for continued leadership development, promotes service to colleges and universities and encourages lifelong contributions to the global community. The criteria for selection includes a minimum GPA of 3.0 or top 35 percent of the rising senior class, whichever is higher, and a demonstrated commitment to scholarship, leadership and service. The 2021 fall class of new members was initiated into the chapter on Oct. 28, 2021.
Jones College honor rolls
ELLISVILLE — Jones College announced its 2021 fall semester honor roll scholars. Full-time students with 15 hours or more and maintain the following grade-point average made the honor roll: President’s List, 4.0; Dean’s List, 3.99-3.5; Faculty List, 3.49-3.0.
President’s List scholars include Taylor Michelle Bailey and Michael J. Chambers, of Columbus; and Wilfrid Lionel Hufton, of Starkville.
Dean’s List scholars include Kyia Mckenzie Skinner, of Columbus; and Tiyunna Lechelle Maxwell, of Macon.
Faculty List scholars include Brody Ross Pierce, of Starkville.
