The West Lowndes 4-H Club will hold a drive-through giveaway of masks for children and adults, plus hand sanitizer, from 8-10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 22 for communities in west Lowndes County.
The first-come, first-served event to help reduce spread of COVID-19 will take place at the Artesia Community Center located at 46 Front St. in Artesia. For the safety of all participants, masks should be worn for the drive-through.
The giveaway replaces a walk and health fair the club traditionally presents each August.
“We had to cancel those due to COVID-19, but we still wanted to do something in the health area, something to benefit the people,” said club organizer Mildred Smith.
The giveaway will distribute approximately 300 packages with masks provided by the Mississippi Department of Health, hand sanitizer and health information about the coronavirus, Smith said.
Sponsors for the club service project are 4-County Electric Power Association, Clark Beverages and the Mississippi Department of Health.
Smith remarked, “4-H is all about service and youth development.” The West Lowndes club’s members currently range in age from 7 to 17.
