Josh Dohmen will pose the question “Everybody’s Workin’ for the … What Exactly?” at Dr. D’s Brain Jam at 6 p.m. this evening at Three Sisters Pie Co. located at 422 Main St. in downtown Columbus.
“All are expected to commit to a career. We spend 40-plus hours a week or more working. I’d like to give us an opportunity to think about these activities that make up so much of our adult lives,” said Dohmen, who is assistant professor of philosophy at Mississippi University for Women.
For the talk, Dohmen will offer opportunities for reflection and provide theories surrounding the value of certain jobs, what qualifies as work and what makes work worthwhile.
Dr. D’s Brain Jam is a series that hopes to provide entertaining and educational topics to connect experts with the community.
The series is free and open to the public and is co-sponsored by The W’s Department of History, Political Science and Geography and Three Sisters Pie Co.
Dohmen encouraged everyone to attend.
“It’s hard to go wrong when there is coffee and pie,” he said.
In August, Dr. D’s Brain Jam will feature local poet C.T. Salazar at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25.
