The Youth Level Two All Star team from GameTime Athletics in Columbus has received a coveted bid to compete at the Varsity All Star D2 Summit in Orlando, Florida, May 12-14, 2017.
The team from the competitive cheer/tumbling and kids’ fitness gym took first place at the recent UCA Mid South Regional in Southaven, which was key to earning the Wild Card Summit bid. The Summit is the national championship for the All Star Competitive Cheer industry. It takes place at Walt Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports.
“Both Youth Level 2 and Senior Level 2 placed first place at the regional event in Southaven,” said Adam Davis, gym director. “I am very proud of the teamwork these athletes show every single time they compete, but especially at this event because it was our very first competition of the season.”
The gym’s Senior Level 3 team did not compete in Southaven because of athlete illness; it will compete this month in Birmingham, Alabama.
This will not be GameTime Athletics’ first time to compete at The Summit. Last year, its Senior Level 2 and Senior Level 3 teams went on Wild Card bids.
“I’m excited once again for GameTime Athletics to be a part of this elite event and for the opportunity these incredible athletes have to represent the gym, their individual schools and the Golden Triangle area,” said gym owner Stevan Black.
Black attributed the accomplishments to the athletes’ hard work as well as Davis and the coaching staff.
“We have several more opportunities this season for our Senior Level 2 and Senior Level 3 teams to earn Summit bids, so hopefully all of our athletes will be able to compete and represent the Golden Triangle in Orlando together,” Black added.
GameTime Athletics offers multiple levels of tumbling classes for all ages and abilities, private lessons and recreational cheer, as well as a special needs team and three competitive All Star cheer teams.
