SPECIAL TO THE DISPATCH
Mississippi University for Women’s Department of Health and Kinesiology will host its annual community health fair on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 9 a.m. to noon in the Pohl Gymnasium on campus.
This year’s theme is “Achieving Health and Wellness.” Participants will have the opportunity to hear from experts in the field about how they can live a healthier lifestyle and achieve their health goals.
A number of tests and screenings, including blood sugar, blood pressure, stroke and sleep apnea, will be offered by Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle and other vendors. Cancer facts and information about nutrition, behavioral health and hospice will also be provided by Baptist.
The Columbus Air Force Base 14th Medical Group will deal with certain health related topics such as flight medicine, mental and women’s health and wellness.
Jackie Doss, graduate assistant in the Department of Health and Kinesiology, said “This year’s community health fair is geared toward the holistic health approach, meaning that we not only focus on the physical health component, but also on the spiritual, mental, social and occupational components.
“If a person becomes unbalanced in one area, they are more than likely unbalanced in several other areas. The vendors at the health fair will be providing lots of useful information. Hopefully, this will show the community what options are available to them if they need help in order to live more balanced lives.”
More than 60 vendors from and around Mississippi will be present at the fair, which is free and open to the public.
