The Barn Concert Series continues Thursday and looks to hold the first concert at the titular barn this season.
Inclimate weather has pushed the previous two shows indoors, but the weather looks to be holding at the moment.
The third entry into the series will feature a blues flavored show with Shannon McNally and special guest Terry “Big T” Williams.
“We are very excited about bringing McNally to Columbus for a Barn Concert,” said Steve Ellis, who founded the series along with his wife Kay. “She is one of the top musicians around and she can play any kind of music. A couple of her albums have been blues oriented and we are very excited for this to be our first blues show that we put on. Bringing Williams from the Delta just reinforces that.”
McNally has released nine albums and been nominated for a Grammy.
Her career has spanned more than three decades and she has worked with many notable figures in the music industry such as Rodney Crowell, Luther Dickinson, Jim Lauderdale, Dave Alvin, Son Volt and Eric Lindell just to name a few.
She has a “soul stirring voice that immediately grabs one by the heart strings and a troubadour’s wanderlust,” reads her biography on her website.
Williams has been in the music world since he was 12. A native of the Mississippi Delta, he was taken in by the Jelly Roll Kings, a group consisting of Big Jack Johnson, Frank Frost and Sam Carr. However, he later fronted multiple bands.
Williams will open for McNally beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday at The Barn, 136 Mac Davis Road, Columbus.
Parking and the complimentary dinner begin at 6 p.m.
As always, a donation jar will be placed on each table and the donations will benefit a local charity.
This show, the charity is Lowndes County Imagination Library.
“My wife Kay is a retired school librarian,” Ellis said. “She and all teachers will tell you that there’s nothing more important in early childhood education than learning how to read. Imagination Library is one of the coolest programs out there and has some of the greatest reach in this country. When you have someone like Dolly Parton behind something, you know it;s going to do well. I’m hoping our audience at the concert will dig deep and help out this very worthy cause.”
Tickets for the show are $30 and can be purchased at brownpapertickets.com/event/5592688.
