As believers in Christ, it‘s very important for us to put God first in our lives in everything we do. When we put God first in our lives, we will do these things:
• First love God — Loving God is the most important thing in our life. We put Him first by loving Him with everything that is within us. By doing this, it shows that our relationship with Him comes first. “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.” (Mark 12:30) KJV
• Acknowledge God first — It’s so important that we acknowledge God first in all things. When we do this, He will direct us in the right way to go. Then, we will find ourselves making right decisions, right moves in our career and life in general.” In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:6) NKJV
• Seek God first in prayer — Before we start our day, it’s important that we put God first by seeking Him early in prayer. There is something about seeking God’s presence early in the morning. That’s the time when our minds and hearts are the clearest and we can hear God when He speaks to us. “O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.” (Psalm 63:1) NKJV
• Put God first over everything — When we choose to put God first, we determine that He is more important than our jobs, friends, school, family or hobbies. While these things are good, they can become idols and we can’t place them above God. God will not accept being second place to anything; He has to be number one. “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3) KJV
• Pay our tithe first to God — Tithing is very important because God ordained tithing. When we faithfully pay 10 percent of our income to God, we’re putting Him first. As a result of doing this, God promise He will pour His blessing out on us so great, we won’t have enough room to put them.“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Malachi 3:10) KJV
So be encouraged today and always remember: Putting God first is important because everything is about Him. “For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.” (Romans 11:36) NLT
