The Bouncing Bettys will kick off this year’s Sounds of Summer concert series on June 2.
The series will be held from 6-8 p.m. June 2, June 16 and June 30 at the Lowndes County Soccer Complex.
Main Street Columbus and Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce notes that concert-goers should bring lawn chairs and blankets to the free events. They also ask that no pets or coolers be brought. Cold beverages and food will be available for purchase.
The Bouncing Betty, has played in the series in the past. Its catalog focuses on rock songs from the 1980s and 1990s, said original member Mark Ellis in a previous interview.
Sounds of Summer is a large family friend event, Ellis said.
“It has a very community feel. You have kids, the elderly, everyone attend,” he said of performing at the series. “The community comes out to support us and it feels good to come out. … It’s really fun.”
On June 16, Artistik Music Entertainment will take the stage. The cover band features Golden Triangle residents who have performed virtual concerts during the pandemic and in venues throughout Mississippi.
The band consists of Taye Tippett, Branson White, Freddie Edwards, Marcus Selvie Sr., Simeon Weatherby Jr., LaKevis Chandler, Rameries Ivy, and Wil’Lani Turner.
The series concludes June 30 with a performance by Style.
Amy Moore and her husband Robert Moore founded the band in 2016. In an interview last summer, she said they loved performing at the soccer complex.
“With a stage that enabled the crowd to get closer to us, it felt much more personable, which is what we love!” she said. “It was great to be able to see everyone’s faces instead of just a bunch of people that are too far away for us to see as individuals!”
