Starkville Area Arts Council announces its second annual U40 Exhibit, a juried art show for artists aged 18-40. On Feb. 22, at 7 p.m., SAAC will host a free public reception at Nine-twentynine Coffee Bar in Starkville to kick off U40 with a month-long display of works there. Following the SAAC Art in Public Places model, works may be listed for sale. SAAC will collect and pay sales taxes on behalf of the artist for any work sold, and the artist will keep 80 percent of the proceeds.
This year’s juror is Whitney Turnipseed, executive director of the Greenville Arts Council. Turnipseed, who received a Bachelors of Fine Arts (emphasis in drawing) from Mississippi State University, and a Master of Fine Arts (emphasis in painting) from The University of Mississippi, is a former teacher for Washington High School in Greenville. Works submitted must be original (i.e., no craft kits). Artists may submit up to three pieces, with no limit on genre or medium, although space limitations may be a factor. Application details are available through the submittable link on SAAC’s homepage at starkvillearts.org.
Submissions are due by Friday, Jan. 25.
