A Martin Luther King Jr. celebration sponsored by Davidson Chapel CME Church in West Point is set for Monday, Jan. 21. It begins with a 9 a.m. procession from the parking lot at East Half Mile Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Drive (the former B&W/Navistar parking lot) to Mary Holmes College Gymnasium. A free program featuring guest speaker Lesha Agnew of Chandler’s Temple CME Church of Verona begins at 10 a.m.
All communities, churches and organizations are encouraged to participate in the celebration march and invited to bring banners to show their representation.
In the event of bad weather, the march will be replaced by a motorcade to the gymnasium located at 1032 Highway 50.
Long-sleeve T-shirts are available at Davidson Chapel CME Church at 136 Martin Luther King Drive, for $15 per shirt.
“We are encouraging churches to provide transportation along the march route and back to the former B&W/Navistar parking lot after the program,” said event coordinator Anna Jones.
For more information about the celebration, contact Jones at 662-494-1024 (day) or 662-494-1173 (evening).
