Starkville’s Second Baptist Church’s parish of approximately 300 members recently donated more than 150 uniform items to the Starkville Oktibbeha County School District (SOCSD) Clothes Closets. This year, 2-N-1 Connection added 20 belts to the church’s donation.
The Clothes Closets, which complement a Junior Auxiliary uniform-donation program, are a go-to resource for school social workers and counselors to assist students and their families in need. They also provide a change of clothes for students at school when there has been an accident. The Closets are stocked with new and gently-used dress code items donated by parents, churches, businesses and community members.
The dress code includes khaki and black pants, shorts, skirts and yellow, white, gray and black polo shirts, as well as school district T-shirts. The community closets also welcome donations of hygiene items, laundry detergent, diapers, underwear, socks and jackets.
Year-round donations help keep closets stocked in all seasons. Most in demand once temperatures drop are uniform pants in youth sizes 5T-16. Feel free to drop donations at any SOCSD school front desk. For questions about donating or how to get involved, contact Marchelle Brain at [email protected].
