JACKSON — The Mississippi Development Authority’s Hometown Mississippi Retirement program has declared June 5-9 Retirement Week in Mississippi.
The “You’ve Arrived” campaign will inform potential retirees of the benefits of retirement in the state’s 13 Certified Retirement Cities, including cultural riches, entertainment and cuisine, excellent medical care and a year-round pleasant climate.
“Mississippi’s high quality of life, low cost of living, abundant affordable housing and no state tax on retirement income make the Birthplace of America’s Music a dream destination for retirees,” said MDA Executive Director Glenn McCullough Jr.
Representatives from MDA’s retirement program will target visitors near or at retirement age at eight Mississippi Welcome Centers as part of Retirement Week during the peak summer travel season.
MDA representatives will visit Welcome Centers in Alcorn County, DeSoto County, Hancock County, Itawamba County, Jackson County, Lauderdale County and Warren County, as well as the Natchez Visitor Reception Center.
“Our Certified Retirement Cities, located throughout the state, range from small towns to metropolitan areas, each with its own charms and a variety of options for living a full life,” said Tina Blue, MDA Hometown Retirement Manager.
Approximately 8,600 retirees have moved to the state as a direct result of the Hometown Retirement Program, according to Mississippi’s Certified Retirement Cities. The current list of certified communities includes Aberdeen, Brandon, Clinton, Corinth, Gulf Coast, Hattiesburg, Madison, Natchez, Oxford, Picayune, Southaven, Tupelo and Vicksburg.
To qualify as a Certified Retirement City, each town must pass a comprehensive three-month screening process conducted by Hometown Mississippi Retirement, the state’s official retiree attraction program. Find more information on the program online at visitmississippi.org/sitepages/retirement.
