The Mississippi School for Math and Science graduated its 2015 class May 23 in Rent Auditorium on the campus of Mississippi University for Women.
Area graduates include Candace Carter, Hannah Crouch, Jacob Sheward, Breeland Starr and India Yarborough, all of Columbus; Jamie Dornan, DaJai Ashford, Magdalen Dobson, William Kao, Agrippa Kellum III, Emoree Heiselt SabriAnan Micha, Qiutai Pan, Jordan Prather, Keely Russell and Flannery Voges-Haupt, all of Starkville; Miya Snell of Crawford; Sumayia Young of West Point; and Allison Oversen of Pontotoc.
Carter is the daughter of Jeffrey and Melissa Carter. Before MSMS, she was as student at Columbus High School.
Crouch is the daughter of Rudy and Catherine Cosby. Before MSMS, she attended Caledonia High School. She will attend Virginia Commonwealth University and major in forensics and Russian studies.
Sheward is the son of Tom and Jasmin Sheward. Before MSMS, he attended Columbus High School. He will attend New York University and major in biomolecular science. Starr is the daughter of Walt and LeeAnn Starr. Before MSMS, she attended Heritage Academy. She will attend Mississippi State University and major in pre-med/early childhood development.
Yarborough is the daughter of Chuck and Leigh Yarborough. Before MSMS, she attended Columbus High School. She will attend Loyola University, New Orleans and major in communications and sociology.
Dornan is the daughter of Peachie Dornan. Before MSMS, she attended Columbus High School. She will attend Mississippi State University and major in biochemistry.
Ashford is the daughter of Stefanie Ashford. Before MSMS, she attended Starkville High School. She will attend The University of Mississippi and major in forensic chemistry. Dobson is the daughter of Edward Dobson and Susan Cook. Before MSMS, she was home-schooled. She will attend Massachusetts Institute of Technology and major in mathematics.
Kao is the son of Chengkuo Kao and Chiati Tsai. He attended Starkville High School before MSMS and will enter Georgia Institute of Technology and major in biomedical engineering.
Kellum is the son of Heather Hanna. Before MSMS, ge attended Starkville High School. He will attend Cornell University and major in computer science and philosophy.
Heiselt is the daughter of Eric and April Heiselt. Before MSMS, she attended Starkville High School. She will attend Ohio State University and major in mechanical engineering. Micha is the daughter of Abraham Micha and Kimeya Aliyi. Before MSMS, she attended Starkville High School. She will attend Amherst College and major in biophysics and religious studies.
Pan is the son of Xiaoming Pan and Xuebin Shi. Before MSMS, he attended Starkville High School.
Prather is the son of Matthew and Tammy Prather. He attended Starkville Christian School before MSMS. He will attend Mississippi State University and major in computer engineering.
Russell is the daughter of Greg and Kate Russell. Before MSMS, she attended Starkville High School. She will attend Metropolitan State University of Denver and major in chemistry.
Voges-Haup is the daughter of Jeffrey and Shannon Voges-Haupt. Before MSMS, she attended Starkville High School. She will attend Mississippi State University and major in chemistry.
Snell is the daughter of Malcolm Snell and Angela Jackson. She attended West Lowndes High School before MSMS. She will attend the University of Alabama and major in biology and applied mathematics.
Young is the daughter of Perry and Fannie Gibson. Before MSMS, she was a student at West Point High School. She will attend the University of Alabama where she will major in accounting and international business.
Allison Oversen is the daughter of Steven Oversen. Before MSMS, she attended Victory Christian Academy. She will attend Mississippi State University and major in biological engineering.
The class of 2015 has been offered more than $22 million in scholarships.
MSMS is Mississippi’s only public, residential high school specifically designed for Mississippi’s most academically talented students. The school, located on the campus of Mississippi University for Women, serves high school juniors and seniors from across the Magnolia State.
