The Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Committee of West Point announced plans for a Jan. 20 celebration,
At 9 a.m. Monday, an assembly of marchers will walk from the end of Martin Luther King Drive and East Half Mile Street in West Point to Main Street and then to Center Stage Auditorium at Central School on Westbrook Street.
A 9:45 a.m. program at the auditorium will honor West Point’s own Lester Moore and Mary Dell Temple for their efforts in making the celebration possible. Moore was president of the Mary Holmes College Student Body at the time and Temple was a local community activist. A host of choirs will perform.
All individuals, communities, churches, organizations and clubs are encouraged to bring banners to show their representation at the march. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will host a voter registration drive.
In the event of inclement weather, a motorcade will follow the march route.
